How we Build our Organic Mattresses

1 .The outer cover of our mattress is a stretch-knit made with organic cotton. Soft, cozy, and breathable.

2. Below the cotton cover is a quilt layer of organic wool, which serves to wick heat and moisture away from your body while you sleep, while also serving as an all-natural flammability barrier.

3. Below the outer cotton/wool quilt layer you'll find layers of organic latex foam, providing a supple and bouyant comfort layer to remove pressure points, while simultaneously maximizing support and air-flow.

4. At the core of our mattresses is a pocketed-coil innerspring to provide the adaptive and ergonomic support you need, while reducing motion transfer between you and your sleep partner.

5. Our mattresses contain absolutely NO fiberglass, petrochemicals, polyfoams, toxic laminates or harmful chemicals.

Why Choose an Organic Mattress?

The overwhelming majority of mattresses sold in the USA today are made from petrochemical polyfoams that bring toxic-VOC's into your home, polluting the air with harmful chemicals. Research has shown that most name-brand mattresses are leading causes of harmful airborne toxins, carrying tremendous risk for the health of you and those you love.

Avoid the famous national name brands that place profits over people, or their low-quality club-store knock offs. Demand a mattress that's made with the same natural, toxin-free materials our grandparents slept on...things like cotton, wool and natural latex.

When you choose a mattress from Ethical Mattress Company, you can rest easy knowing your getting a mattress that meets the highest standards for transparency, sustainable sourcing, material integrity, comfort, and proven long-term performance.

FAQs

Do organic mattresses really make a difference?

They create a cleaner sleep environment that supports your health by utilizing all-natural materials instead of the petrochemical polyfoams used in most mattresses. The result is a comfortable and supportive mattress that doesn't release toxic VOC's into your home.

What is the best organic mattress?

The answer to that question is subjective, and only you can decide which is the best mattress to meet your needs. But after a lifetime spent in the mattress industry, we believe that hybrid mattresses made with latex foam and pocketed-coil springs achieve the best combination of Comfort, Support and Temperature Management. These are what we call the 3 Keys to a Great Night’s Sleep, and if your mattress fails to provide all 3, you'll struggle to get the great sleep you need. With that in mind, our Ethical Mattress Collection and Avocado mattresses are hard to beat!

What mattress to stay away from?

For health reasons, you should avoid mattresses made with fiberglass flammability barriers, sometimes misleadingly referred to as ‘silica-based fibers’. Fiberglass can be extremely harmful, even deadly, if it is released into the air. Avoid any mattress that uses chemical flame retardants or chemical laminates to adhere layers of foam to each other. And avoid cheap memory foam mattresses, as they can contain a long list of harmful chemicals and heavy metals that will pollute the air in your home.

For sleep quality, avoid mattresses with memory foam as it sleeps hot and does not provide the proper adaptive support your body needs for ergonomic alignment.

For durability and longevity, avoid cheap mattresses made with low-density foams or offset coils.

What is the healthiest type of mattress to sleep on?

Mattresses made with toxin-free natural materials are superior to those made with petroleum based foams.
