My name is Bryan Umiker, and I founded The Ethical Mattress Company in 2022.  As a 20+ year resident of Maplewood NJ, my goal was to open a neighborhood sleep shop that would serve my neighbors in Essex, Union and Morris counties. 

Our mission is to Change the World, One Mattress at a Time, and that starts by giving back to our local community, and by treating each customer that visits our store the same way we would would treat our neighbor. We're proud to be the locally owned mattress store of choice for Millburn, Short Hills, Maplewood, South Orange, West Orange, Montclair, Livingston, Springfield, Summit, Chatham, Madison, New Providence & Westfield. 

First, we serve our community by providing them with a superior and affordable selection of mattresses and pillows, all of which are exceptionally well-made in the USA, primarily right here in New Jersey! Our mattresses are toxin-free, and provide the perfect combination of comfort and support for a better night's sleep.

Second, we serve our community by giving back.  This means stepping up to support our local schools, clubs, organizations and events.  Below you will find a partial list of local groups we have supported either financially, or with contributions of time and talent, or a combination of both.

With all due respect to my competitors, the reality is they do not give back to our community: 

  • Mattress Firm doesn't donate to the PTO fundraiser for your kid's school. 
  • Casper & Purple don't support the high school musical with a program ad. 
  • Bloomingdale's doesn't volunteer to coach your kid's sports team.
  • Raymour & Flanigan doesn't sponsor any of our local festivals & events.
