Is a mattress in a box actually as good as an in-store mattress?

Yes, our boxed mattresses use the exact same certified organic materials as the ones on our showroom floor. Compression for shipping doesn't affect the latex, coils, or organic wool inside.

Will a mattress in a box smell like chemicals when I open it?

Ours shouldn't. Off-gassing is common with polyurethane foam and synthetic additives, but our mattresses are built from natural latex, organic cotton, and organic wool, so there's no chemical smell to air out.

How long does it take a mattress in a box to expand?

Most reach full size within a few hours, though we recommend waiting a full 24 hours before judging the feel, since natural latex needs a little time to settle after being compressed.

Can I get a crib mattress or kids' mattress in a box?

Yes. Avocado's organic crib mattress and our own kids' hybrid mattress both ship in a box, and both skip the flame retardants and synthetic foams found in many crib mattresses.
